Having trouble starting, now check engine light on and stalls and sputters

Check all the wires and connections on the engine wiring harnesses first. Look for physical damage and heat damage in particular. Clean any dirty plugs you find of any oil or other grime, unplugging them and plugging them back in as needed.
In particular you may also want to check and maybe remove and clean the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor. Be careful you don't get any dirt into the engine if you do pull them out, although the electical plugs are probably more suspect.
