Having problems with your 2001 Ford Windstar ?

2002 Windstar with possible alternator failure. The problem is an intermitant check charging system warning and then eventually the lights go out and the car dies. I checked and ther is no charge going to the battery(stays at 13 volts or so). Before I pull the alternator off is there something I'm missing. This is a 3.0 engine by the way and none of my repair manuals show an alternator like what I have. Napa even insists that I don't have this motor but I do. They put it in a few 2002's . There

Answers :

HEY TRY THIS. SET THE PARKING BRAKE, MAKE SURE YOURE IN PARK. START THE ENGINE, AND THEN REMOVE THE NEGATIVE CABLE FROM THE BATTERY. IF THE ENGINE DIES THEN YOU HAVE A BAD ALTERNATOR, IF THE ENGINES KEEPS RUNNING THEN YOUR ALTERNATOR IS GOOD AND YOU MAY HAVE A BAD EXTERNAL REGULATOR (IF EQUIPPED).
