Having problems with your 2001 Isuzu Rodeo ?

Oil light came on, car died. Towed to lube express, and it was bone dry, though we're a very short time past the oil change date. Filled with oil, now car won't start. Clicks, but won't turn over, and there's a knocking sound.

The sudden loss of oil is of concern. Disconnect the fuel pump fuse, the low voltage wires to the coil and remove the spark plugs. With the plugs out, the engine should spin easily on the starter motor when you turn the ignition. Check on any stuff being thrown out of the empty spark plug holes while the engine spins. If you can also do a compression test on each cylinder. My concern is to rule out anything disastrous and the above process will give you some idea about the health of the cylinders and pistons. \015\012Drain of oil and remove the engine pan, Check pan for debris and examine piston conn rods. Check that oil pump is still working and not loosely rotating. Check the big-end bearings and main bearing shells for wear and integrity.
Engine runed with very very low oil level, it's like a body with no blood, will not go very far, the knocking sound are piston push rod's, you will need another engine, new or used, just replacing with a crankhaft kit and bearing's will only work for a very short time that you would be throwing your money away and the only one on top would be the repair shop.Good luck
