\015\012Here is the diagnostic checklist;
\015\012
\015\012) Check the fuses. It can't hurt.
\015\012) Will the headlights come on full brightness ? If yes the battery is good.
\015\012) Is the clicking sound coming from the starter ? If yes give the starter solenoid a few sharp hits. Don't hit the electrical connectors! sparks. They stick sometimes before failing. If it works now you will still have to replace it.
\015\012) Try jump starting. The extra voltage can sometimes force the starter. Still have to replace it.
\015\012
\015\012) If the clicking should is only coming from under the dash it is probably the starter relay which is normal. Then you should check the fusible link for corrosion or failure. If it is good the starter is still suspect.
Sounds like you have a bad battery. The quick way to diagnose it is to first ground the negative jumper cable to a metal point that is attached to the car frame of the Jeep. If you can't find one just attach it to the negative battery terminal on the battery.
\015\012
\015\012Then detach the postive battery cable from the battery (you can do this first if you feel safer). Next is to hook up the jumper cables to the car that is going to jump your jeep. Make sure the positive jumper cable is not touching anything on your Jeep first.
\015\012
\015\012If you have friends this makes it easier!
\015\012
\015\012Now you want to connect the positive jumper cable(red) to the positve battery cable on the Jeep. Make sure that the cable ends are not touching the Jeep at all (very important)
\015\012
\015\012Now you want to go start the jump vehicle and make sure the cable still is not touching. Then go try to start the Jeep. If the battery was bad the Jeep should fire up with minimal effort. If you are still getting the same issues then it is either a bad cable or possibly a starter motor that is starting to go (high resistance).
\015\012
\015\012If it starts bring the battery down an autoparts store to be tested.
