Having problems with your 2001 Kia Sportage ?

I have a 2001 sportage that will run for miles then just die when I come to a stop. I have replace the fuel filter and pump. Please any help in narrowing this down would be great.

If you have an automatic transmission, perhaps your torque converter lock-up solenoid is hanging. This would be like trying to stop a manual transmission vehicle without depressing the clutch pedal. I've not heard of any brand besides GM having this problem, but it seems possible. (Some GM transmissions from the 1980's do this when they got hot; the work-around is to disconnect the solenoid before long trips and accept the loss in fuel mileage if repairs are not financially practical.)
