Having problems with your 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ?
Window's not returning, yet motor activation is audible. Is it consumer servicable?
If your car uses the same window regulator as a Mitsu 3000GT, I bet the plastic cable guide shattered. Pull your door panel off and take a look. It's near the top center of the door. You should see a cable too. It's a $5 piece of plastic, but ya can't get it from a Mitsu dealer. Only option is to replace the WHOLE regulator....$400 from the dealer or about $200 on eBay. And yeah, you can replact it yourself with basic hand tools, but you are gonna need a service manual.
You have two possiblilties here. One the window regulator is bad, this is the devise that the window motor hooks to and is the mechanical means to move the window. The other is the motor, even though you can hear it run. The motor has a gear box with an over rideing clutch that can go bad, so even though the motor is running, the gears may not be. The best way to determine what you will need is to remove the inside door pannel and take a look. Yes you can service this yourself if you have some what of a mechanical inclination and a good set of tools. The most difficult thing you may encounter is the fact that many of these are installed with 1/4 pop rivets, and need a larger than normall pop rivet gun to install. Removall is normally to drill out old rivets or use a die grinder or dremell type tool to remove the old rivets.
