Having problems with your 2001 Subaru Outback ?

My 2001 outback has manual transmission. Original battery had 420 CCA. When I went to get replacement, I was told to use Group35N with 550 CCA. It wouldn't fit. I was also warned that a battery drawing too much would kill my alternator. Where can I get an appropriate battery. Car has under 60K miles.
