Having problems with your 2001 Toyota Corolla ?

The oil light is staying on, I have a corsa 2001, the oil level seems fine and the car does not seem to be over heating although there is some mayo on the oil cap which i've been told can happen for constant short journeys. My battery keeps cutting out and needing replaced...should I replace the battery and top up oil before taking to a garage with the chance that the light may go out?
