Having problems with your 2001 Volkswagen Beetle ?

2001 beetle, 8,000 miles on a rebuilt motor, check engine light is on. What do I check first? Am looking at purchasing this car. Have no manuals to refer too. The light was not on when I drove the car 30 miles home yesterday. Did have to stop half way and add coolant after the garage replaced a fitting on the block and failed to top off the coolant the week before.

Answers :

Have the the VW scanned for the DTC codes, there are to many things that can cause the Check engine light to come on. It could be as simple as a faulty gas cap to a bad O2 sensor.\012
\012Auto Zone scan free of charge and can give you the suggested method of addressing your engine's issues.\012
