Having problems with your 2001 Volkswagen Passat ?

I have an overheating 2004 vw Passat I verified the water pump was working by removing the fill line to the fill tank and it was flowing steady at 2000 rpm. I also burped the system by running the car at idle with the filler cap off and the heater on full. The heater was pumping out hot air like it should. Any suggestions at this point would be appreciated. aggrevated vw owner matt

Answers :

It could be the thermostat. if the car stays at normal operating temp at idle and only gets hot when you drive it is the water pump. i just changed one that never overheated at idle even when it set for an hour or more. as soon as I tried to drive it I would get a mile down the road and it would be burning hot. took the water pump off and the impeller was spinning on the pump shaft.
