Having problems with your 2002 Buick Century ?

Just bought a low mile (55,000 mls.) 2002 buick century limited. It runs and looks great...like new, except for a high ptiched whine or humming sound that can only be heard inside the car. The sound is not heard outside the car or from under the hood. It seems to be more from the backend rather than the front. It is louder when the car is idle and is quieter when your foot accelerates the gas peddle.

At a guess, I'd say fuel pump is whining. Gets louder at idle cos resistance to flow, flow level restricted. Step on the gas increases flow and lowers resistance and pressure in fuel line, motor quiets down. ???
\012Also, fuel pump usually stops moving when line is pressurized. Like when turning ignition on, you can often hear the pump start up then stop (before starting engine) So its possible there is more going on there..

\012Thats all I can think of in the back. Try turn on ignition without starting engine, and listen if it sounds the same. Or stops after a few secs.
Possibly the fuel pump,if the fuel filter is getting dirty it will make the pump work really hard and make noise,I would change the filter.
