Having problems with your 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac ?

I have a sqeal when I crank the engine. I have replaced the belt and the idler pulley. It sounds like the pulley on the power steering unit. Can the pulley be changer on the power steering unit or do you have to relpace the whole unit?

Answers :

Try replacing the belt tensioner. That is the most common issue with these. You can use the "broom handle listening" trick. It will give you a slight noise when running if this is the issue.
\015\012Secondly, try "belt dressing"...usually 5 bucks at your local auto store. Don"t use aremourall or anything else as you"ll stretch your belt causing power sterring "hop"
\015\012The squeal you hear is the bearing going south.
