Having problems with your 2002 Ford Focus ?

Car loses power when fan comes on

\015 When stopped at a light (for instance), if the cooling fan comes on, the car shudders. If I take my foot off the brake. it'll just sit there, rather than start to coast. If the fan goes off with my foot off the brake, the car lunges ahead. It's like the fan causes too much drain on the battery. Is this an alternator problem?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 14-09-2020

Answers :

Yes it is the alternator that needs to be checked as it is almost certainly not charging correctly.
If the car has a high mileage the brushes in the alternator will be badly worn and the voltage regulator would also need to be replaced. Often people will just replace the entire alternator unit rather than disassemble the alternator and replace parts.
