Having problems with your 2002 Mercury Mountaineer ?

Heater is not working makes a ckicking noise when on hot stops when moved to cold

Your blend door actuator is stripping it's gears. See if you can get to the actuator by following the noise. You may have to remove some panels. Remove the actuator from the heater box and try to rotate the blend door by hand. If the door is jammed, you will need to break it loose. You may have to remove the heater box to do this. Once unjammed, the actuator may work OK.
\015\012If the door rotates fine by hand, then replace the actuator. The part costs $40 at autozone and looks like the picture below. Let me know if you have more questions.jturcotte_48.jpg
The temp door may be stuck, or the actuator motor is bad. I woul dhave ashop look at it, some of these are a big job to replace.
