Having problems with your 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix ?
Trying to find the timing marks for tdc on a pontiac grand prix 3.1
Their isnt any ,its done with a magnetic pick up on the cam gearwheel, unless you mean you have changed the timing belt and not sure on how to re time the engine??Quick guide if you have done the later, remove no 1 spark plug and insert long thin screwdriver make sure piston stays down from tdc ,by turning backwards a bit ,engine rotates to the the right so turn it anticlockwise a little so the valves dont wack the pistons .then remove the rocker covers and make sure the inlet and exhaust valves closed and cam nobes are pointing up and outwards ,Now look on the end of the cams and their may be slots in the end ,or a casting that points to the other cam .this means the valve timing is set now bring crank arouind clockwise till you can feel the piston come up and stays still for a fraction then starts going down now bring it back till its TDC and feels like its in the middle of the movement .then fit the belt .This was one of the motor vehicle technicians pratical questions in my exams, except we had to time an engine with no timing marks and rebuild the distributor as well and fit that in.Also then start with a starting handle of max of three swings .But please be more specific when asking questions because not all of us have ever seen a pontiac grand prix ,so what you may consider a valid question ,to others like myself who live in europe and have never seen these gas guzzlers ??.Now that doesnt mean i cant diagnose the fault it means that i dont have product knowledge so to speak.Anyway hope this helps you out and the best of british with your problem.
