Having problems with your 2002 Pontiac Montana ?
Montaa Van Van fails to start in colder weather. There is no click of the solenoid (no sound at all) Banging the starter lightly with tire iron often causes it to start. Boosting it doesn't help as it doesn't seem to be the battery. Is there a second solenoid or relay. Could the colder weather (not necesarily freezing) affect the starter? Could it be a loose of corroded connection? What are your thoughts?
Answers :
Either the brushes are warn down to the limit (doubtful unless your trips are short and very frequent), there has been a spill or oil loss that has contaminated the starter or the solenoid itself is sticky inside preventing free travel of the piston.\015\012The latter may be the most likely since it is presumably mounted on the starter housing and responds favorably to being 'abused.' (masochistic starter?)
