Having problems with your 2002 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo S ?
Starting problem, motor cranks but won't turn over
\015 When I turn the key, the engine seems like it is going to start, but it just sputters and dies. It almost seems like it isn't getting any fuel. This is the second time this has happened. The first time, (several months ago), it started after waiting a few minutes. This time, I waited but it still wouldn't start. It was parked on a slant with the engine area lower than the rear end. I checked the owners manual and it said to check the fuses, but there was no fuse box descriptions to be found. \012\012First, when I arrived at my destination, I looked at my fuel guage and it was right below a half tank. Since it seemed like it wasn't getting fuel, we added what we had on the property. About a gallon of fuel. I tried to start it again, but it still wouldn't turn over. The fuel guage was resting in the same place with the key on...between 1/4 & 1/2 tank. Since this didn't work, we decided to check the fuses.\012\012I did locate two fuse boxes. One under the hood and another on the drivers side of the dash by the door. The six fuses under the hood appeared to be fine although two of the six wires that coorespond to them appear to be darker from heat and there looks like a little build up, kind of what is on a battery terminal. \012\012The fuses in the dash appeared to be fine. I pulled and replaced the top three rows, checking each to see if one was blown. Since there was no fuse box description. After a row, I would try and start the engine again. \012\012Finally, it started and I was able to drive home (50 miles). Upon arriving, I stopped for fuel and filled up the engine. The fuel guage appears to be normal. The engine started again. I have driven it twice since this happened. \012\012I am still worried about getting stranded. I am assuming this is a warning for me, but I do not know how to proceed from here. I am looking for some guidance on how to proceed. Are there certain things steps to troubleshooting this type of problem? \012\012Thanks in advance for any help.\015
