VW Polo Classic 1.6 Radiator fan not going on
\015 Good day, I just purchased a VW Polo 1.6 Classic 2002 Model and have the car for 3 months now. On Saturday whilst I was in traffic, I noticed the red light flash on the dashboard, 1 minute later there was steam coming out from the engine where the water bottle is situated. I then managed to get to a garage to fill up the water and coolant level, but noticed that the fan was not going on at all.\015\012\015\012I then took it to a mechanic who then suggested we replace the switch, but even that is not working.\015\012\015\012What else could be the problem?\015\012\015\012Any assistance will be highly appreciated.\015\012\015\012Regards\015
Try moving the fan blades by hand to see if the fan spins freely to see\015\012if the problem is frozen bearings in the fan motor. Replace the fan\015\012motor if it doesn't turn. If it spins freely disconnect the wires and\015\012hook the fan directly to the battery using a jumper. If it runs the\015\012problem is most likely the thermostatic switch. If it doesn't the fan\015\012motor is bad.
I have had the same problem ,for me , it was the thermostat housing ,the plastic location on the stat housing had broken ,if the stat doesnt work the water cant circulate around the rad and the fan switch ,located on the rad doesnt get a true reading of the engine temp, cheers
