Having problems with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD ?

One bolt attaching the tail gate cable at the tail gate end fell out. I found the rectangular nut that threads onto the bolt but cannot figure out how to get the nut back inside the inner surface of the tailgate so that I can secure the cable. There's no access to get the nut in there. I tried a magnet to hold it thru the side latch mechanism but it just does not work. Any ideas?.....there's got to be a way because Chevy replaced the cables for recall a few years ago.

I have this problem but I lost the nut, and the dealership doesnt sell it. What do I do?
Ok this is what I would do, Find a socket that best fits that nut. After you find 1, use something to fill the space up in the socket so that the nut is flush with the end of the socket. When you get that done use some kind of grease or anything that can keep the nut from falling out so easy. Take the tailgate handle off so you can access through there. I hope you have a few extensions so you can reach to the end. Hope this helps and works out for you, if so please rate my answer.
