Having problems with your 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe ?

Knocking noise in steering wheel

\015 I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe. I noticed several months ago a slight knocking noise in the steering wheel mainly when going over speed bumps. It has progressivly gotten worse to the point that I now hear and feel it in the steerign wheel not just over speed bumps but any bump period at lower speeds.\015\012\015\012Any guidance as to where the problem may be would be appreciated.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-05-2018

Answers :

Have someone grease the intermediate steering shaft that extends from the firewall to the steering box or rack & pinion unit. This is a telescoping shaft under the hood, driver's side. Disconnect one 15mm head bolt about half way down the shaft, remove cover at firewall, (2 visible 10mm nuts) extend, grease & slide in & out. Recommend using marine grease. Sometimes there is enough factory grease on the shaft that just pulling the shaft back & forth a few times will suffice. Let me know if this works for you.
Heve you checked your steering fluid?\015\012 if the fluid is of check the bearing of steering pump and also the bearing of the tensioner.
