How to change fuel filter and where is located

Answers :

It is located inside of the frame rail on the drivers side near the transfer case. There are two different filters depending on whether you vehicle is flex fuel or not.

If the lines going into each each end of the filter look the same it is not the flex fuel filter. A 16mm flare nut wrench (highly recommended) and a 20mm wrench is all you need. Once the lines are out spin the filter with the 20mm wrench while pushing towards the front of the vehicle. It will work its way out of the plastic bracket by doing this.

If one end has a threaded nut and the other has a plastic quick connect fitting it is the flex fuel filter. Use the same wrenches for the one side and pinch the two white tabs on the quick connect side and pull the hose off.

****there is about 60 psi of pressure in the lines. Make sure you take some precautions not to get a face full of fuel. You can either relieve pressure by pressing in the schraeder valve on the passenger side of the fuel rail under the hood or pull the fuel pump relay and let the vehicle run until it stalls (there will still be some pressure when you do this.

****the filter should be labeled with either an in, out, or both. Out goes towards the front of the vehicle.
