Having problems with your 2003 Honda Element ?

When driving my 2003 Element the car makes a whining noise whenever I decrease speed. If I press the excelerator the sound immediately goes away. This only happens while the AC is running.

Answers :

It would NOT be the timing belt, because 03 Elements have a timing chain in the DOHC 2.4litre i-Vtec K-series K24A4 engine. It may be that when the a/c compressor kicks on, it takes a lot of torque power from the engine, possibly putting strain on the engine mounts that COULD be on their way out. If the engine mounts are shifting further than normal spec, it could cause any of the belts under the hood to squeal or whine. It may also put strain on the tensioner/pulley that is being pulled harder by the belt. In conclusion, have your engine mounts looked at. May be time for replacement.
