Having problems with your 2003 Kia Rio ?
Transmission The transmission on my 2003 Cinco disengages while driving. Let the vehicle sit for while and it will go for a mile or two and the ploblem repeats it self.
I had the same problem and found the transmission fluid pressure and return tubes in the radiator were clogged. Removed restriction and problem has not repeated it self.
F4AEL trans, old mazda design. Many possible causes across a broad spectrum from low line pressure, bad torque convertor,to electrical solenoid failure, and even internal transmission failure. All systems involved with the trans have to be checked and evaluated.Main line pressure can be checked with a mechanical gauge, trouble codes pulled from the vehicle to determine any possible problem with the trans electronics from shift solenoids to speed sensors.Pan contents and fluid condition also a factor in the final diagnosis.A complete under car check to verify the drive axles are fully engaged into the trans.I also have at work a Zoom Technologies box, some call a breakout box, that allows complete manual control of the trans, eliminating the vehicle computer from the picture. This is to isolate the trans from it's control system, and verify the problem is indeed with the trans, and not the computer.Sophisticated, expensive equipment is really needed to diagnose properly, including a scan tool, and breakout box,and a source like All Data online to run down, diagnose, and repair trouble codes.
