Having problems with your 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ?

Overheating and heater blowing cold air.

\015 I have a 03 Galant ES. When I turn the temp knob to cold and use the AC it makes a clicking sound, when I turn it back to heat it makes the same clicking sound and blows cold air most of the time. After a day or two on heat it will come back on but I can not run the fan higher than two or it goes back to cold air. Also while driving my temp gauge is normal but when sitting at a stop light or idle it gets hot but not to redline. I bought a new thermostat and I am also not sure where that is located to see if that may be the problem. Is it under the batter and battery housing? Any ideas?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 20-01-2020

\015\012I had the exact same problem, yes it was the heater control valve, the repair was 285.00. The tech that replaced it told me it is a common problem for the Galant. He said that if you keep your temp selector on either all hot or all cold that it keeps constant pressure on the plastic gear teeth in the valve. As they break off one by one you begin to hear that clicking noise as the dont catch. When you finally break off the last one it stops working.

According to him if you always leave the dial at least one notch from fully hot or fully cold you will not experience a failure of the switch
Is the cooling system full?  Have you bled it?
