Having problems with your 2003 Toyota Camry ?

Camry V6 09/1993 running rough - fuel filter?

\015 Recently ran my 3L V6 Vienta Sedan very low on fuel. After filling she was running really rough. Seems to chug and cough & almost as though it will backfire. Ran a Fuel System cleaner through but hasn't fixed it. Could it be fuel filter and where is it and how do I change it? Or what else could it be?\015\012Thanks,\015\012JD (Australia)\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 14-05-2018

Hey ,,

Ok here is what has happend to you
You ran the tank low, now the dregs (rust particles) have stirred up in the tank and clogged the filter, thats whats causing the problem.
You can replace the filter, fill the tank right up, let it settle a cpl day and you will be fine once the tank dont go below half. To totally fix the problem you will have to take the tank down , have it washed and recoated, change the filter, and service the fuel intake to the engine.

To check if your tank has rust particles in it,
1.) remove the back seat of the car
2.) remove the tank covering and pop the gal lid
3.) remove the plate thats covering the fuel pump (in the back seat)
4.) remove the fuel pump by unscrewing it and disconnectinmg the hose.
5.) stick your hand in the tank from the space left by the fuel pump and feel the bottom you should feel rust particles.
6.) observe the fuel pump filter for signs of rust, then wash and replace the pump.
7.) re assemble everything.

Hope that helps.
Air filter also caused the same problem, check it.

\015\012a detailed tunning may also solve the problem. but the tunning should be done by a qualified mechanic.
