Having problems with your 2004 Chrysler Pacifica ?

'04 Chrysler Pacifica battery won't hold a charge for long. Sometimes it will be fine for months and then not start. Other times it won't last more than a day. I was thinking it must be a parasitic drain from somewhere. Does anyone have any idea? I was about to purchase a new battery but don't want to get one if that's not the problem.

First try to understand if there is a parasitic drain.

Once you exclude the drain, replace the battery, a battery with shorted cells can cause the drain.

The firmware has nothing to do with drainage, unless the unit is factory defective.

To\015\012measure drainage remove ignition key, connect the amp meter between the\015\012battery positive wire connector and positive terminal.A couple of\015\012milliamps drainage is normal, and is caused by instruments, car stereo\015\012memory, ECU etc.
Start removing more fuses , and open the wiring at different points , trying to locate the problem.
Remove the fuses and see if you have drain by\015\012connecting a meter to\015\012read amps on battery, if you have drain with no fuse, then the problem\015\012is insulated to wiring harness before the fuse, with something shorted\015\012between the battery and the fuseblock.
Also check car stereo and car amp HU, the HU can keep a unit on when the ignition key is off, causing drain.

Had the same problem for 3 years and 3 batteries. Have fixed it now - all good, no electrical problems, no battery corrosion. All I did when I bought my last battery was buy a generic replacement terminal clamp for the negative post and got rid of the funky copper one. Do it!
