It's easier than a car---meaning that you do not have to drop the fuel tank or empty the tank either.
\015\012What you do is remove the front two pick-up box under-carriage bolts and loosen the rear two bolts. (these four bolts hold the rear pick-up box in place)
\015\012Then take of the fuel tank fill cowling ---nomaly little shetmetal screws, so it hangs loose from the box. You do not remove the fuel fill hoses or the vent hoses.
\015\012Then with the help of another two helpers.Lift the box from the front up at an angle ---leaning back. Have the third guy put some braces(2x4 timber- may have to cut to size) to hold the box up at angle---enough to stick your head in, to get to the top of the fuel tank to undo the pick-up/fuel pump/gauge cover.
\015\012Again be very careful about the braces ---make sure they are adequate and safely in place.
\015\012Though, if you do not feel this is safe than it's a matter of disconnecting the rear tail light wiring and then completely removing the box--it's not that hard either.
\015\012Good Luck..
You have to remove the tank and after you get the tank out there is a port that unbolts or has a twist type lock ring on it. When you take the bolts or lock ring off, the pump will come up out of the tank. Make sure to remove the fuel prior to removeingthe tank. I also recommend that you disconnect the battery or batteries just to be safe.
