Having problems with your 2004 Ford F250 ?

6.0 powerstroke noise

\015 2004 powerstroke 75000 miles. just serviced 4500 miles ago. on a 4500 mile trip this past week with about 500 miles left to home motor started making a whooshing sound at 1/2 to full throttle. noise loudest at full throttle pulling hill towing 10000lbs. noise absent at idle and at small throttle openings. sounds like static from an am radio or vacuum cleaner under my passenger dash board. i need to make a 1500 mile trip tomorrow and don't know if i'll do more damage or possibly break down altogether. i thought it to possibly be a vacuum leak but was told that engine light would come on. also had suggested it is a turbo on it's last leg. any suggestions out there?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 30-11-2020

Answers :

Not the turbo on it's last legs. Check the hoses that come off of your turbo that go into the intake. Fords are famous for the hose clamps that hold the hoses in place breaking or coming loose and the woosh sound you hear is the compressed air being forced out of the hose somewhere when the turbo spools up. When this occurs you probably don't have quite the pulling torque you should. You will notice quite a drop in performance. Check the hoses or rubber boot connections from your turbo.
