Having problems with your 2005 Audi A3 ?

Cream gunge on oli rocker cover

\015 I have just checked my oil levels on my Audi A3 2004 reg. When i removed the rocker cover lid and noticed there was a lot a cream coloured gunge there. Is this normal or is this a sign of something goind wrong\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 12-08-2019

That means water/moisture is in the lubricating system. A very common reason for this is the vehicle is not driven long enough to be hot enough to evaporate naturally occurring condensation. If you don't drive the vehicle alot and/or short trips . a good solution may be to switch to synthetic oil.
Dont panic. The creamy deposits youve found is where water/moisture is mixing with your engine oil. This can be due to any manner of reasons. Firstly, oil change intervals are always increasing which is not necessarily a good thing as it puts even higher demands on the oil between changes. If most of your journeys are local/town trips, this makes the problem worse as your engine simply isnt running as its designed to at varied speeds, up and down motorways and the like. Is your cooling system thermostat working correctly? This is a very important component in any engine, as its function is to maintain a constant working temperature. If your temperature gauge fails to read a normal working temp, it could be your thermostat has become stuck open? What this means is your motor wont be running hot enough, which will in turn develop cold spots and condensation around your engine, hence the cream sludge. Give your engine a good quality engine flush prior to changing the oil and filter. Top tip, dont go for a cheep grade oil to try and save a few pounds, in the long term its uneconomic. Many engines these days are turbo charged and bearing failure due to poor quality oil is a very expensive lesson to learn by, I can assure you of that. One other thing to check is your coolant level, has it dropped at all? There is a slim possibility there may be cross contamination between the two fluids, possibly due to a cylinder head/gasket fault. Is there a lot of pressure when you remove the coolant expansion tank cap? if not, your probably in the clear. I hope this advice is of some help? Good luck.
