Having problems with your 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier ?

What causes the Tachometer on my 2005 Chevy Cavalier to act "funny"? For instance, when I shut the car off the needle will still have a reading of about 3000 rpms. When I start the car, it shows about 3,000 at idle. If I give it gas, it will read above 3,000, but when I take my foot off the gas it won't drop below 3,000. Has the Tach went bad, or is there a sending unit, or wire defective? Thanks, Dennis

On the 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters this is a common problem, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and can be repaired. Check out this page for how to get it fixed - Cavalier tachometer not working
