If it is only a problem with one remote (the spare works OK), try this before you buy a new one.....
\015\012Open the starter as if you were going to replace the battery.
\015\012Get an alcohol pad (like the ones in First Aid kits) and wipe the contacts on the starters circuit board and the back of the buttons of the rubber membrane. Most of the time this works...
Ok help me understand this. When you say "remote starter" are you refering to the Keyless Entry remote. Assuming your car is equipped with remote start from the factory, if you check engine light is on the remote start is disabled. Is your check engine light on? Do you have multiple Keyless Entry remotes? See if the other one works if you do? It is possible that perticular button on that remote is not working while others are working. You will need to replace it at a dealership.
