Having problems with your 2005 Chevrolet Equinox ?

There is a loud noise coming from the front end

\015 There is a loud noise coming from the front of the car when I go over bumbs or uneven road that sound like a metal to metal bumping. I was thinking the shocks, but what are signs that they need replaced? I replaced both wheel bearings not too long ago, but now after a couple months I have a new problem. When I turn the wheel it making a creaking/popping sound. I was thinking that it could be the ball joint being dry or an outer tie rod. I do know that it is something in the steering I believe. It's a 2005 LT with 165,000 miles on it. =) \015\012prefer emailed responses but on here is ok.\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 12-04-2021

Answers :

The shafts to the wheels are the problem.
Upper strut bearings, above the front springs could be an issue. You shouldn't need front bearings in 5 years?? The fairly high mileage, may indicate new shocks/struts, but not cause the noises. When you solve this, flush the power steering fluid on all your vehicles. You will save yourself from replacing the steering racks. Also do the transmissions and brake fluid, every couple years.
