Steering wheel hard to turn when sitting still

\015 Intermittent problem. When sitting still- like to make a turn waiting for traffic to clear, when I turn he steering wheel sometimes I have to use both hands to turn it. I can also hear the power steering pump, it sounds like it is ''working'' very hard. I have checked powersteering fluid level, it is good. Belt tension around all pullys is good. Any suggestions?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 10-12-2018

Answers :

Your pressure release valve is more likely your problem. If you look at the hoses and find the one that has a bolt-like fitting on the fluid tank. Take that hose off and unscrew that fitting. the relief valve is in there. Make sure that it is clean and moves with ease. Put it back together and that should do it. If it still does not work let me know.
It could be the steering gear on the column, the filter in the pump may also need to be cleaned.
