Having problems with your 2005 Jeep Liberty ?

Ticking sound under hood... Cooling fan spins both ways when the car is not running, is this okay? or should it only be able to be spun one direction? Serpentine belt looks fine! I'm told its a lifter, but they didn't break into it to check for sure... Any idears

Answers :

Cooling fan is designed to freewheel below a certain temperature. Once that temp is reached it locks. In working that way, it saves fuel by not drawing power away from the engine unless needed.
Ticking can be a valve lifter. If it's minor, often some Marvel oil or lucas engine treatment will help with that.
