Having problems with your 2005 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Benz E320 Cdi ?
The car in question is a 1996 Mercedes Benz E320. Not a 2005 E320
\015 The car in question is a 1996 Mercedes Benz E320. \015\012The problem is when I start the car (doesn't matter if it was just was running, or on cold start) the cluster for speed, oil temp, RPM's, does not work. The time and mileage of car on digital readout is functioning all the time, no problems with this part of cluster. The needle for the speedometer has a slight shake to it, when car is running... similar to a wall clock when the batteries are low, the second(s) hand just shimmies up/down a millimeter each way.All gauge needles are bottomed out (below zero/as if car is not running), when the problem occurs. If I start the car, and the cluster is working, it works fine while car is running. Once I turn the car off, the next time I start it, (again it doesn't matter if it is 10 seconds or hours later) the cluster may/may not work. Also there is a clicking sound from what I understand is a relay on the drivers side right by headlamp switch.Speed is unknown, when the cluster is not working... and I am worried about the obvious safety factors of this issue. Can anyone help me with this crazy occurrence???Again, your assistance is much appreciated.Thank you,Dave\015
First I think the there is poor contact on the plug behind the cluster, but when I see your mention about the needle shaking then I think it needs to replace. I just check on ebay selling for $99 and it is a good price. It is easy to replace. Once the instrument can be pulled out, there are only 2 things to be disconnected: a speedometer cable can be unscrewed and a big plug for all electrical connection to be pulled off. Good luck.
