Usually you don't have to get a new battery at all. In fact most of the time if you jump start the car the alternator will recharge the battery simply by just letting it run for a few minutes or driving around the block. But if you do have to buy a new battery because it died when it was cold and froze, then you might have to reset your check engine soon light after you put the new battery in.
You don't really need to get a new battery just charge that one up unless it is really junk. Take your battery or car to a qualified repair shop to test your battery. If your alternator is working properly all you need is a jump start and drive the car for appox. 30 miles to reset the computer and you should be good to go.
