Having problems with your 2005 Subaru Outback ?

Radio and HVAC displays are dark. Minor problem, or major danger?? HELP??

\015 This morning my car started up and was running fine, but the radio and HVAC displays are dark. It's Sunday, and I can't find a mechanic to call. My problem is I don't know if this is a minor problem that I can fix when it's not a total hassle, or if this is a major issue and my electrical system could fail on the freeway. Is the car safe to drive? I have 2 small kids with me all the time, so I need to be sure we're safe, but getting the mechanic can also be a MAJOR hassle. Much thanks!\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 22-07-2019

It sounds like you just have a fuse blow. Read you instruction manual to find where the fuses are located and see if there is one for the HVAC and radio (there are usually fuses in a compartment under the steering wheel and under the hood). If its a fuse then you just pop out the old one and put in the new one. You can tell if the fuse is blown by seeing if the little metal strip in it is in one piece or two and if it looks black. Fuses are very inexpenisve and easy to fix. This doesnt sound like a serious problem and the car should work fine, just no lights on the HVAC and radio.
