Having problems with your 2005 Volkswagen Passat ?

My MIL light came on in my 2005 VW Passat. I cheecked the gas cap first. I unscrewed and then screwed it back to make sure it was tight. Since the light didn't go out I went to Auto zone. They said it was the gas cap but now shows pending and it should go out on it's own. They said sometimes it can take 2 weeks before the light will go out. Does this sound right?

I have a 2004 Passat and received a letter from Volkswagen of America advising me that defective ignition coils could cause the MIL light to come on and for me to simply bring my car to the VW dealer and have the coils replaced at no charge to me.
They just guessed it was a gas cap. gets expensive when you play the guessing game. They are not suppose to sell parts based on codes. Parts stores have been warned against this. It could take up to a month to turn the light off on some cars. If the problem doesnt clear up then you may have another code come up but since the light is on already you wont know it
