Having problems with your 2006 Ford Taurus ?

P0760 Shift Solenoid C @ 72k; clean/reseat; fault return; :-(

\015 It makes me more and more sad every time it happens.\015\012 \015\012My 2006 also shows "check transmission" of late. \015\012 \015\012Thing is, I got this fault once right after buying the car. Took it back to the dealer and fault code was shift solenoid C (P0760). That's an electrical problem in the transmission... not sure where it's located. Need to read more. Cleared the fault then, and (like a fool) drove off and waited to see if it was a fluke or if it would come back because the car had been sitting for a bit. Now, 1/2 year later, I've moved and am getting the same fault again. (Haven't driven it much since buying. Have been working overseas/moving).\015\012 \015\012Took it into a Ford dealership after seeing "Check Transmission" again (not where I bought it, but here in Guam), and have the same fault code. The technician told me that he'd looked in an electrical attachment to the transmission, and saw condensation, that some grease had dried. He took and reseated an electrical connection, because what was causing the fault Shift Solenoid C was that a sensor was alerting that there was a low voltage through whatever circuit he worked on. When I left I was just happy that the fault had cleared, that I drove home with no recurrence, and that the trouble with the transmilssion was electrical and not mechanical.\015\012 \015\012So I left the place and I guess all was supposed to be fine. Nah. I just got a check transmission light again a couple of days later on the way to work. To make things sweeter, got a "check charging system" as well. WTF? \015\012 \015\012Who knows. I feel for you who are having the same trouble. From the looks of it, this problem is somewhat common. I'm seeing a bit of it on other forums and sites I'm looking at. I've read all the posts about what a great car this is, but I've replaced a faulty valve in the fuel evap system recently as well... that's a couple hundred bucks. Wondering what the alt and tranny might turn into now is enough to make me sweat a bit, especially because I can't slow down on work for a good few days, and need the car to get there.\015\012 Any specific advice??? Cuz that would be awesome\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 19-08-2019

Hi,
\015\012The AX4N transmission has a technical service bulletin for the P0760 shift solenoid C problem. It can be caused from a broken retainer clip in the valve body. The new clip is bigger and has round notches in it indtead of square. You will need to check the bore of the Forward Clutch Control Valve where the clip goes. If the valve body is damaged, it will need to be replaced. If the clip is broken it will not let the transmission go into overdrive and set the code for shift solenoid C stuck closed. It is much easier to pull the lower pan to check this first because, the side pan is a major pain in the assssss.
\015\012Hope this helps.
Just a guess here, but if the car is working fine apart from these codes, they may be due to lack of use...remember the days when all we had was igniton lights? sometimes ignorance is bliss!
