  • If you can "pump up" the brakes and the pedal gets firm, then I bet its\015\012 air. If the pedal starts firm, then slowly goes down, then the fluid is\015\012 either leaking or bypassing within the master. I would try a re-bleed \015\012first and see if it fixes the problem.

  • If not, it sounds like you may have a bad Brake Power Booster. These unit's aid the driver to operate the brakes because without assistance it would be difficult to stop the car on your \015\012own. Check your brakes by turning the car off, and pump \015\012the brake pedal 3, 4 maybe 5 pumps of the pedal it should become\015\012 solid. If it not then get them looked at. Lets say the pedal is feeling solid, hold the pedal down as hard as you can and \015\012start the car. As you start the car the pedal should go down pretty \015\012much all the way. This is the booster kicking in which is great but if\015\012 the pedal does not go down the booster needs looking at.
Was there any codes that were set in the system? Does the pedal feel normal now when driving or \015\012is it soft or does the ABS activate when stopping?

Generally, the Master Cylinder is the wrong when this occurs. If the Master Cylinder is not producing enough pressure this will also cause the pressure switches to set a pressure loss warning code. You need to make sure the dealer is aware that if their diagnosis is not correct they are going to reimburse you for the part that was installed that did not fix your problem. If you are not using any brake fluid this just means you have no external leaks. It is possible that if the master cylinder is starting to go bad the cylinder seals inside could be bleeding pressure by but normally this will cause a soft or spongy brake pedal. Be respectful but yet be assertive that you want it fixed right the first time with no guessing.

They have the diagnostic equipment to make the call correctly if they know how to interpret the data. I can only go by what you are telling me and from my experience of seeing what goes bad on these brake systems.
