Having problems with your 2007 Volkswagen GTI ?

My MIL light came on in my 2005 VW Passat. I cheecked the gas cap first. I unscrewed and then screwed it back to make sure it was tight. Since the light didn't go out I went to Auto zone. They said it was the gas cap but now shows pending and it should go out on it's own. They said sometimes it can take 2 weeks before the light will go out. Does this sound right?

Hi, the car has to be driven for 50 drive cycles (start, run to operating temperature, exceed 20Kmh and stop) without any other faults occuring. I would be surprised if the fuel filler cap has caused the light to come on. Even if it did your garage should be able to clear the fault code from memory and extinguish the light with the same tool that they used to read the fault.
