Oil and filter changing for 08 sienna. How complicated is it?

\015 08 sienna van. the oil filter is not the conventional spin on type, it has a cartridge that goes into a canister. Is this place that the drain the whole oil system from? There is nothing in the owners manual. I tried to find a repair manual for 08 sienna but there is none to be found as of yet. \015\012What is the does and don'ts for oil filters and oil changing for this 08 sienna?\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 21-05-2018

You still have to drain the engine oil from the drain plug in the oil pan, and I recommend replacing the drain plug gasket.
\015\012If you buy a filter from Toyota, it actually comes with instructions on exactly what to do. There is a 3/8" recess in the bottom of the filter housing, when you put a 3/8" extension and a ratchet in this and remove it, there should be a plastic piece that comes with the filter to pop into the bottom of the housing and drain the oil. replace the o-ring and reinstall the housing drain plug.
\015\012You can get a filter-cup tool from Pep Boys or local auto parts tools sections that will fit the filter housing. Use the cup with a ratchet and extension to remove the filter housing. replace the filter cartridge and the o-ring. Make sure to lubricate o-ring, they will snag! Reinstall and add 6.4 qts of oil
The oil is drained nomally, as you would do in any other car. The oil is drained from a plug on the oil pan; use a new gasket before you refit the drain plug/bolt onto the oil pan. Toyota part number for the drain plug gasket: 90430-12028.
\015\012The oil filter cartridge does require some info, though. In the box with the new filter-cartridge, you get 2 O-rings. Please make sure that you use them, or your filter housing WILL leak. Hope this helps, Thnaks for choosing FixYa to assist you with your question.
