Can't find main brain box on 2001 Hyundai xg300
\015 My car is ether running to lean or to rich every time I reset my computer and I already replaced the air fuel sensor mechanic says it needs whole new brain but I don't know we're the original one is exactly\015
Below is a picture of the location of the PCM ("brain") BUT (and there's always a but) I'm thinking there may be other issues and not sure how well you know the mechanic but have been in this business for 25 plus years and have found that if the PCM goes out in a Hyundai that the vehicle will just not run. In most cases if you are getting a repeat code then it's either a sensor or a wiring issue. What trouble code keeps on popping up ? I say this because a rich or lean condition can be many things from an oxygen sensor to the mass airflow sensor and many in between so If I knew what code you were getting this may narrow down the sensor or at least what circuit you are dealing with. Besides all that you just don'y replace the "brain" like any other part. It needs to be programmed to your vehicle and some learning procedures need to be done and I know that you would be lucky to get a "brain" for under $300.00 and would hate for you to waste that money. I'm just an outsider and you may know this mechanic personally but if he has already replaced a part with no change then the proper diagnostic testing was not done. There are tests to rule out parts/sensors so mistakes are not made and the proper part is replaced. If you are mechanically inclined I may be able to help you in diagnosing (for sure) what the problem is. I would need the trouble code your car shows in order to be able to do this. You can reply/comment here or email me directly at [email protected] with all your information including the year and model of your vehicle. I don't mind helping and yes it won't cost you anything. I just have seen it too many times of people getting ripped off by mechanics or the wrong parts get replaced. Being in the business myself it makes it hard because so many mechanics rip off people who just don't know any better and it makes it ******* us few honest mechanics to have customers trust us. There was a recall on the PCM but it didn't say what the symptoms were. If your vehicle was produced between Aug, 24, 2000 & Sept. 30, 2000 your vehicle may have been part of that recall.
