Depends on what type of vehicle, but if it,s a bit older you can disconnect the negative terminal of the battery while the car is running, and if the car remains running, the alternator is putting out power, if it dies right away, the alternator is gone. I don't recommend doing this unless it's a last resort type of thing, but I have done this quite often without any problems. NOW, the proper way. If you take the alternator off, you can have it tested for free at any place that sells them . Or a mechanic can test it while it's on the car. That is the easiest way. Plus as the mechanic tests it, he also tests your battery at the same time. Food for thought. Let me know how you make out please rate my solution thanks
