Answers :

Year, make, model, engine size?

If your changing those items it would be best to have the system placed under a vacuum. Typically this is done for about 30-45 minutes to help boil out any moisture in the system. The system can then be filled.

You can fill the system through the low side port. Recharge cans typically come with a low side fitting that will attach to this port. The low side fitting is always the smaller fitting on the larger line.

There should be a sticker under the hood that has the max refrigerant capacity. You will likely need several cans of recharge to get to this max. get as close as you can without going over.

Start the vehicle. turn on the a/c, attach a can of refrigerant to the low side fitting. open the valve on the can. you should hear the transfer of refrigerant from the can to the a/c system. eventually the a/c compressor will kick on when the low side pressure has built up. add more refrigerant as necessary.

these are generic instructions at best since you did not post a year, make, model, or engine size.
