Having problems with your BMW 325 ?

88 BMW 325i tap tap tapping...

\015 Engine is a 6 cyl. and is knocking (or tapping) sounds like a pushrod and I want to do a temporary quick fix because I'm also rebuilding an 87 model and I don't want to buy another car. I just want this one to last a little longer so I can complete the other , then i'll redo this one. Have never done a BEAMER before and so far its only been small stuff, brakes ,suspension, alternator and new RAG TOP etc. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance, Bert\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 14-10-2019

Answers :

It could be just a hydraulic tappet that is stuck? Is the noise there constantly, or does it sometimes go away when the engine is hot? Best thing is to change the oil and put a tappet freeing additive in with the new oil to see if it goes away. There are a few around but the best one I've used is a product called Pro-Ma MBL8, not sure where you're based but this an address for the stuff: http://www.mapc.co.nz/performance-parts/vmchk/pro-ma-mbl8-oil-additive-250ml.html
Otherwise, if you ask at a local workshop, they may be able to give you some advice on a good product available in your area.
