Having problems with your 1998 Ford Taurus ?

Car will not start

\015 My 98' ford taurus would not start after a night of freezing rain and 12 degrees below zero, what could be the problem\015 Posted / edited by AnonymousUser on : 03-08-2020

Answers :

The most like problem is a weak car battery.
Here in the Northeast US, the car battery is only good for 4 to 5 years and seeing you are getting a lot colder than that, the battery is probably only good for 4 years. You should go and get a new battery and look for one that has the MOST "Cold Cranking Amps" or CCA that you can afford! Usually they also come with a good warranty with the higher CCA's.

Good Luck!

First of all - check the battery and battery connections. Corroded connections don't transmit power as well as good clean ones.

Second - after cleaning, check voltage (careful) and charge batttery if necessary.

Third, see if engine will start with a jump start - if won't start after cleaning and charging, but will start on a jump, you've got a bad battery or starter motor - take it to a shop and have them diagnose it further.
