How to remove heater core from 1989 chevy pick up?
Pretty in depth procedure on any vehicle, but start with, why your changing it, does it leak? If yes are you sure it's core and not hose leak at connection at firewall, which is quite common, and will squirt coolant into core area. Hopefully you've ruled all that out. Most likely, be good to remove glove box, but get your head up under there and see what your into. Drain coolant from core prior obviously. With trouble light +(standing on your head) look at all the screws that need to be removed and there location, as well as blower motor. I usually remove it (blower motor) first & look and feel around to see if I can better determine exact location of core, to help decide what parts of the duct housing have to come down in order to remove core. If your mechanically inclined, patient, and have some time on your hands, "Have at er" ! Just remember, to be sure, after you have new one in, and hoses connected, run vehicle, & add coolant, and have a look at it before you button it all back up, to make sure no leaks. careful going in with new one, don't damage cooling fins etc any more than necessary, but not at all is better. Before you do, call a local rad shop, & or repair shop and get a quote on replacing for you. You might find in an 89' it really shouldn't be too bad as far as labour charges go. Only takes a minute to call around and ask, & may save you a big headache if not up to the task. Good Luck, let us know what you decide & how you made out.
