Having problems with your Chevrolet Cavalier ?

I have a 97 cavalier 2.2ltr, the car runs fine untill it reaches normal operating temp. then it trys to die, and runs poorly at idle or at a stop. when your driving at normal speed it runs fine too. the scanner says that it has a missfire at the #1 cylinder but have tried replacing coil, module ,plugs and wires and no luck, also tried the crank and cam sensor.

If your scanner displays data streams, I would check fuel trim to see what it looks like at idle. It could be caused by an injector sticking open after it gets hot. The only other suggestion I have is to check for a blown head gasket. (leaking antifreeze into #1 cylinder when it gets hot.)

Due to the expansion of metal parts with gaskets sounds like a vacuum leak. Let us try a simple test with a can of carb cleaner. While engine is running and coming near operating temp spray all around intake and vacuum hoses. If engine dies or speeds up there is a leak. Fix leak and test again. Too often the EGR valve will hang up as well tap the top of EGR and see if engine smooths out also spray carb cleaner around it to. Let me know how it is going
