Having problems with your Chevrolet Chevy ?

I have a 85 chevy k-10 4 spd manual 4wd 350 What type of trans fluid to i use, will Castrol DEX/Merc Domestic Multi Vehecle ATF be ok to use?? Also do i just fill it to where it starts seeping out the fill hole? And how many pints does it take. Thanks

DO NOT use any kind of ATF in your transmission. Manual transmissions back then used gear oil. You should be using 80W oil in there. You likely won't be able to get straight 80W so 80-90W or 75-80W would be okay, any gear oil in the 70-90W range. My service manual says that a GM 4 speed will use 4 US quarts if it's totally empty. Yes you fill it until oil starts to seep out the fill hole. Hope this helps.
